Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is a specially bred strain of the edible raw microalgae. Raw Spirulina platensis is cultured in shallow, open ponds (approximately 20 cm deep) adjacent to the Pacific ocean. A combination of fresh water and supplemental deep ocean water is used to fill the ponds. Natural food grade fertilizers are used and 2000ft deep sea water is added as a rich source of minerals and trace elements. This managed growing system assures a contamination-free, consistently superior nutritional profile.
Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica's production system operates without the use of pesticides and herbicides, and does not create erosion, fertilizer runoff or water pollution.
Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica is the only cultured microalgae grown with ultra pure deep ocean water as a source of minerals and trace elements. The deep ocean water is pumped up from a depth of 2000 feet, supplying magnesium, calcium, and every trace element. This unique resource is also used in our cold drying system.

Hawaiian Spirulina Pacifica uses a patented Ocean Chill Drying process to eliminate the oxidation of carotenoids and fatty acids that occurs in standard heat dryers. Our raw spirulina typically contains 80% more beta-carotene and 20% more SOD (an indication of the viability of living enzymes) than common spirulina that are dried with heat. You can pay less for other brands but you will be getting a markedly different spirulina in terms of nutritional content, freshness and bio-availability.

Our process employs a closed cold drying system that is kept at low oxygen concentrations by flushing with nitrogen and carbon dioxide. The process relies on very cold ocean water drawn from 2,000-foot depths to provide dehumidification and actually dries microalgae products in less than six seconds.
This process makes Hawaiian spirulina pacifica the only totally cold processed, vegan, naturally grown, raw spirulina in the world.

Making Spirulina tablets without heat provides challenges because of the fine, dusty particle size. Commercial tablets often solve this problem using a heat process called granulation which can degrade nutrients. We built an advanced tablet facility specifically for our cold processed raw Spirulina, enabling us to make tablets with a cold compression technique.
