General Ecology presents data from testing specifically selected to demonstrate the Seagull IV water purifiers effectiveness in removing those contaminants most frequently encountered in water supplies. Please note that all general ecology test results of the Seagull IV water purifier, represent performance using actual water born contaminants, not substitute surrogates which some water filter companies submit. This Seagull IV water purifier performance data test sheet shows some of
the water contaminant removal capabilities of seagull IV water purifiers.
It is recommended that before purchasing a water purifier, water treatment
unit, or water filter you have your water supply tested to determine your
actual water contaminant levels and water treatment needs. |

Three series of tests were conducted by the independent laboratory at the University of Arizona to document removal of microbiological water contaminants according to current EPA Guide Standard and Protocol for Testing Microbiological Water Purifiers.
The water purifiers were operated for 100% of their rated capacity and challenged periodically with high concentrations of bacteria, cysts and virus. At the 60% and 75% test points the units were challenged with worst case water according to protocol. Additionally, the water purification systems were allowed to stagnate for 48 hours after the 50%, 75% and 100% test points to demonstrate that no microbiological growth through the water filter cartridge occurred..

Conclusion: General Ecology Inc.s Seagull IV, and First Need water purifiers met the EPA guide standard as microbiological water purifiers by removing bacteria, cysts and virus without the use of chemical additives or multiple processing.
A single RS-1SG water purifier cartridge was evaluated for removal of MTBE over a test duration of 1,000 gallons.
The Seagull IV water purifier system with RS-1SG cartridge was installed on a test stand and operated for one minute on/one minute off at a flow rate of one gpm.
At the selected water test points, the Seagull IV water purifier system was removed from the test stand and challenged by pumping one liter of water spiked with MTBE into the system. Influent, Effluent and Blank (control) samples were taken at each water contamination test point.
Samples were analyzed by a certified, outside testing laboratory using gas chromatography, with a mass spectrometer (Methods 5242/8260A). The laboratory reported that influent (before) levels were exceedingly high, more than 500 to 700 times highest levels of MTBE reported to date, and more than 800 times levels normally used in removal evaluations. This resulted in atmospheric contamination in the lab and initial saturation of the GC column. This may explain the slight amount 0.003 mg/l detected at the 500 gallons point.
Results are as follows:

Conclusion: As seen by the results, removal effectiveness, even at these exceedingly high influent concentrations, was excellent.

General Ecology's Seagull IV water filters (since 1973). The only chemical free portable water purifiers certified to federal E.P.A. guide standards for microbiological water purification of cysts such as giardia, cryptosporidia, disease bacteria and viruses! Why settle for a mere water filter?
Instant, effective natural water purification through our proprietary structured matrix advanced water filter technology for removal of microbiological water contaminants and chemical and aesthetic water contaminants without the use of chemicals, electricity, hold time, multiple pass through or large storage tanks. Importantly Seagull IV water purifiers leave the beneficial minerals and electrolytes in your water. You will never get this level of water purification from a water filter. The Seagull IV water purification system cost may be higher than a water filter but its level of effectiveness meets or exceeds complex powered units costing three to four times as much. Seagull IV water purifiers leave you with sparkling pure great tasting healthy water.
