FORWARD
Perhaps, all of us, at one time or another, have wondered what it would
be like to actually fly. Many of us pretended to fly like Superman or Supergirl
when we were kids, or we imagined we could flap our arms and fly like the
birds. Some of us have even had dreams in which we were soaring through
the air or taking giant leaps like people walking on the moon. This little
book will teach you how to experience "lucid flight" (how to
fly awake in your dreams). By the time you have finished this book and
practiced the instructions inside, you will have the experience you only
imagined as a kid. This is what is about to happen to YOU!
You will be sleeping and beginning to dream. Suddenly you will wake up.
You will be aware of touch, taste, smell, hearing and sight. Fully awake
and conscious of who you are but you will still be asleep and dreaming.
At this point with your new knowledge and equipped with the instructions
in this dream manual, you will experience a ride like no roller coaster
on earth can give you. You will fly at will like Superman, but you won't
be dreaming. You will be awake and alert, and the experience will be real.
Typically, you can expect to feel refreshed, happy and light for several
days after your first "lucid flight." Frankly, after all these
years of flying, I still get a rush every time I take off and every time
I finally wake up in the morning. Apart from the good feeling you get when
you can help another person in some way in this life, there is no better
natural high than experiencing "lucid flight" flying awake in
your dreams.
You are about to begin a journey into a world in which most of us spend one third of our lives lost in darkness and vague memories. The exploration of this new world is vast, uncharted, and just inside your grasp. One of the riches of this world is the ability to fly. Up Up and Away!!
Chapter 1. Look Mom, No Wires
Hey, is this guy crazy? He thinks I can fly.
Oh, but, you can! You just need a proper vehicle. When the Wright Brothers
first flew at Kitty Hawk and manned flight became a reality, it was the
combination of several things that made it work. The first was a connection
with the imagination; the second a conviction (a belief) that flight was
possible. Then, a lot of hard work, trials and design changes until finally
a working vehicle was born out of the things that preceded it. Fortunately
for you, because of the dream work that has preceded your picking up this
little manual, it won't be as difficult nor take nearly as much time as
it took the Wright Brothers. Just the simple act of picking up this dream
manual and reading as far as you already have could result in your first
dream flight experience tonight.
You will be dreaming; only your dream will seem like reality. Then suddenly, your conscious mind will take a giant leap forward into inner space and you will realize you are dreaming, but now you are fully conscious at the same time. At this point,
everything you have ever imagined is possible in your experience. Nothing
in the dream world is impossible. There are no limits to what you can do
or experience while awake in your dreams. The vehicle you need for dream
flight has already been built for you. It is in fact a part of you. It
is a
perfect aerodynamically sound contraption capable of speeds and maneuvers
that would make any jet fighter pilot jealous. The engine for this dream
vehicle starts up the first time that your conscious mind wakes up in your
dreams.
Nothing in the dream world is impossible. All you need to do is practice
a little to get the hang of it and you are off on your first dream flight.
Up Up and Away!!
One of my first experiences of this fully awake dream state came one night
after several weeks of recording my dreams. I was keeping a dream journal
writing down all my dreams in the morning as best as I could remember them.
I like to associate this record keeping with the Wright Brothers' blue
print design stage. I don't begin to understand how it works, but somehow,
keeping a record of your dreams speeds up the process of becoming fully
conscious in your dreaming state.
Anyway, I was dreaming that I was climbing a farm silo (you know those
tall round storage bins the farmers use to store corn and grain in.). I
had reached the top when suddenly I lost my footing and started to plunge
to what I was sure would result in my certain death. The dream seemed very
real to me, and I believed I was about to die. I was terrified. The fall
seemed to last for minutes. Suddenly I woke up, but not in my bed. I woke
up in my dream. I was still falling and almost at the bottom. I knew I
could not be hurt because I realized this was just a dream. What a dream!
I was fully awake falling at the speed of gravity to an uncertain experience
awaiting me below. No more time to think, the bottom of the silo was coming
up fast. I had only enough time to relax a bit and await the unknown. What
happened next I will never forget, because it wasn't a dream. I was fully
awake and aware in every sense of the word. I hit the bottom and bounced
half way back up the silo. The effect was similar to a trampoline, only
better. The silo was at least 100 feet high and I bounced back 50 feet
or so when I hit the bottom. The sensation was a combination of fear, panic,
relief and exhilaration, plus a new found sensation of lightness. What
a rush! I climbed up the silo dozens of times that night like a kid having
their first experience on a rope swing diving into a river. I just couldn't
get enough. Each time I bounced I found myself going higher on the rebound.
Eventually, I was flying to the top of the silo with each bounce.
I woke the next morning laughing. The whole day and the week that followed
were magical to me. I felt alive and happy, and I knew that one third of
my life that was usually shrouded in darkness and lost to me in the morning
would no longer be an empty void. My dream world now lit up with the light
of possibilities. Perhaps you are beginning to imagine those possibilities
for yourself. Let me help you along with your exploration by introducing
you to some simple dream tools to make things easier.
Materials needed: a notebook, a pen, and desire.
Begin by recording your dreams as soon as you wake up (regardless of the
time of night or day). Set aside a special notebook and pen or pencil just
for your dream work. Place them right next to your resting area. Always
record the date as well. If you wake up in the middle of the night and
can't write your dreams out in longhand, just jot down key words, ideas
or scenes. In the morning, these keys to your dream memory will activate
a flood of remembrance, and you will be able to write out the entire dream
context. After a short time, your dream memory will become more vivid and
automatic.
It is your desire and this simple act of writing down your dreams that will help to accomplish what every person at least once in their lives has longed for: "To experience the ultimate freedom of flight." Accompanying this experience will be your new found ability to control and manipulate your dream state and the world of dreams. These are the most basic and most important tools in discovering a new life in the marvelous world of conscious dreams.
If you believe you don't dream or seem to have little or no dream memory,
use this second simple tool. Begin to "desire" the memory of
your dreams. As you lay in your bed at night, write this desire down in
your notebook and record the date as well. You will find your dream memory
will increase on a day to day basis proportionate with your desire and
your willingness to write these desires in your notebook.
It is not unusual for many people to quit at this point. The scenes from
our dreams can at times be most frightening or disturbing. Normal dreaming
is just our semi or unconscious reaction to events happening to us or around
us in our awake world (reality). This can be a problem since many of us
have been emotionally affected by the negative events in or of our lives.
These events or actions often control our dreams and will trigger nightmares
or reruns of our past experiences. The key to overcoming bad dream memories
is forgiveness and desire.
Begin by consciously setting aside the past. Forgive and forget your experiences
in the past. Continue your dream notebook with a positive and forceful
frame of mind. Always desire to have the best of life's total experience.
Set aside the unchangeable past and press forward to your ultimate dream
flight experience and the total freedom of controlling your dreams. If
you believe you can't forgive and forget yourself or others, then begin
by "desiring" to forgive and forget the past for your own sake.
Write down this desire in your dream notebook and begin to believe that
the next dream you have will more closely resemble your new desire, your
new life, than your past life or past life experiences.
For some, this may be the greatest challenge of their lives and only a
day by day persistence will crack open the gate to a new world and a new
found freedom. For those of you, more fortunate in this life, there will
be little or no effort required to merge the conscious mind with the subconscious
mind and the world of dreams.
Regardless of your state in this life, the basic tools needed to achieve
full dream control remains the same. Work on your own dream desires and
dream memories daily. These are the most basic and most important tools
in discovering a new life in the marvelous world of conscious dreams.
Chapter 2. This Experience Belongs to Me
By now, because of the daily recording of your dreams and dream desires,
your state of dream consciousness (awareness/awakeness) has risen to a
basic level. That is: when you are dreaming you realize (you become aware)
that you are dreaming. You may even be thinking "This is just a dream."
or "I know I am dreaming.". Your goal or dream desire at this
point should be to increase this realization. The world of dreams, formerly
a product of your subconscious mind, is now becoming a subject of your
conscious mind. You are the ruler, through your desire, of this new dream
world and soon you will be able to alter or change any dream or part of
a dream to your heart's content. Please continue to record your desires
in your dream notebook.
Some of us may now feel we are observing our dreams, much like a person watching a play or a movie. Many of us are also emotionally entwined in the dream and our semiconsciousness seems to shift from watching the dream to participating in the dream. A few people may even be participating in the dream and aware at the same time that they are only dreaming. Others are, at this stage of learning, fully awake seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, tasting and are consciously aware they are dreaming, yet, awake and in full control of their motions and experiences in a new world. This is the state you ALL will achieve shortly through your desire and the simple tools of recording your dreams and dream desires.
Now, here is your third tool to speed things up. Claim your rights!
That's right: it's that simple. Record your rights to this flying experience in your dream notebook.
"This dream flying experience belongs to me. I know this flying experience
is mine. It is part of my lost abilities abandoned by my culture but brought
alive again by ME, and my desires, and knowledge. Tonight I will FLY awake
in another world".
Record this right of passage in your own words in your notebook and repeat it to yourself as you fall asleep, excited to know that this tool will take you closer to your goal. For many of you, this will be the turning point in your dream experience. Tonight, you will fly like Superman!
My experience with the dream world has taught me that these rights of passage and dream desires are sometimes like seeds planted in the earth. Please be patient waiting for these tools to take effect. Some seeds sprout over night; others may take a few days to germinate.
Persistence, desire and determination are omnipotent.
When my wife and I first married we honeymooned on me banks of the Black
River in South Carolina. This river is colored by the leaves and roots
of the millions of trees lining its banks. The leaves contain tannic acid
and the water, although very clean, resembles a glass of dark iced tea.
Since we were close to the ocean, this river was tidal.
Once a day at high tide, the river current is totally still. It was precisely
at this time of day that my wife and I decided to take my uncle's boat
for a ride down river. The trip was unbelievable. The sky was bright blue
with huge puffy white clouds scattered about. The water was dead calm and
silver like a mirror. The boat seemed to skim across the water without
contact and the reflection of the sky in the water was perfect. Suddenly,
the images of sky and water became one. I had to grab onto the boat's steering
wheel with both hands to reassure myself that I wasn't falling. With my
two hands on the wheel knowing that I was in control of the boat, I was
able to relax and enjoy the unusual sensation of vertigo. I felt suspended
between the earth and sky flying through the clouds on my wingless jet.
Knowing that I wasn't in an airplane and without the fear of an uncontrollable nose dive, I immersed myself in this feeling of freedom and flight that only ended when a boat coming from the other direction rippled the water destroying the sky's perfectly reflected image. My wife and I were stunned as our minds had been tricked into the feeling of flight almost simultaneously.
This was a lesson in conscious awareness I will never forget. It taught me that, in dreams and sometimes in reality, nothing is as we suspect. The point is; my just knowing I was in a boat in full control did not stop the truly physical sensation of free flight. Only the mirrored image of the sky and the motion of the boat were important. What I believed or "knew" to be real had no effect on the experience.
Waking up and flying in your dreams is much the same. To experience dream
flight you don't have to believe it is possible or even that it is real.
The knowledge or awareness that you are only dreaming will serve to relieve
any fear you may have about being hurt by a fall. The experience of waking
up in your dream world and its accompanying sensation will come through
your fixed focused desires. Your desires while dreaming must become like
the water in the river - fixed, still, unmoving and mirroring the images
of your written dream desires and rights. When this happens, you will experience
the vertigo of dreaming.
Some of you will react to this experience the same way I reacted in the
boat. The shock that you are awake in another world will cause you to want
to grab onto something physical. However, since your body is sleep, this
is not possible. Some people at this point will automatically mentally
shock themselves into waking up. This is an instinctive survival reaction
to the unknown and can be accompanied by loud waking noises, pulsating
flashes of light, or anything your mind thinks it needs to imitate in order
to wake you up and save you from the unknown. This type of reaction happens
to some people dreaming when, for the first few times, they realize that
they are no longer in their body lying down asleep in bed, but are in another
body in another place surrounded by and in the world of dreams.
Even the person who is only observing their dreams with a semi-awareness
that they are dreaming can experience this dream vertigo. If they are able
to wake enough to realize that the body they are observing their dream
from is not their asleep physical body but is their consciousness semi-awake
in another body observing another world. You may wake enough to realize
you are in another world above the world of dreams viewing your dreams
through the eyes of a different body. It is the mental shock that you have
left your body and your mind now occupies another body in a separate reality
that wakes most people out of the dream world.
If your desires are strong and you have claimed your rights to this experience,
your desire will soon overcome any fear. The realization that although
you are awake you are in fact only dreaming and nothing in this dream world
can hurt you will become your safety net. Overcoming this instinctive reaction
of survival - flight from the unknown - is simple. First, you need to develop
a greater awareness that you are only dreaming. This will happen naturally
as you record your dream memories and dream desires becoming more familiar
with the world of dreams. Second, you must possess a burning desire to
travel in and explore the unknown. Third, you need to claim that the beauty,
freedom and boundless experiences of traveling free flight fully conscious
in the world of dreams belongs to you.
While the rest of humankind is wasting one third of their lives on a limited earth, you will be able to experience a world beyond reality whose borders are limitless.
If you now possess none of the tools above but have even a small flicker of a desire to have them, write those desires down in your dream notebook. Desire, imagine and claim this new world to be yours and it will be. Continue writing down your dreams, dream desires and rights to fly fully conscious, and your love for life will grow with this desire as will your acceptance for worlds very unlike your own.
Soon you will find yourself seeing, hearing, touching, tasting and smelling
through the senses of your flight vehicle (your dream body). You will be
fully awake and aware that you are in another place and another time, yet
only dreaming and in reality safe and secure in your bed asleep. Now anything
is possible for you. Your only limitations are those you submit to.
Chapter 3. The Art of Whole Body Ventriloquism
These are some simple exercises in dream consciousness extension that will
help you to develop your ability to wake up in your dreams without waking
up your physical body. I find it very easy to practice this at the dinner
table, and if you have an animal in the house this simulation can be most
exhilarating and enlightening.
Whole body ventriloquism is the art of moving your mind and five senses into another person or object through an expanded consciousness: some people like to call this an enhanced imagination and others call it a separate reality. Again, you do not need to believe this is possible to accomplish it. You only need to desire its possibility for your mind to eventually achieve full transfer capabilities with accompanying sense stimulation.
Any good ventriloquist will tell you that to practice their art correctly
you must become the dummy and lose one half of your self-awareness becoming
a separate you: a different you: a you that you wish to project to the
audience: a you that you wish to talk through a different mouth. For a
few seconds while you are speaking as a dummy, you must be the dummy or
at least your voice must be outside of your own body and in the dummy.
The ventriloquist achieves this feat by desiring in himself this artistic
ability and rehearsing. Whole body ventriloquism is like a rehearsal for
your dreams. In time you will find you can easily move into a dream state
while fully awake using whole body ventriloquism as an avenue to your world
of dreams. If this sounds difficult, don't worry. It all happens in the
blink of an eye with practice.
Begin by simply desiring to be the person sitting next to you at the table.
Imagine yourself seeing through their eyes, hearing through their ears,
taste what they are lasting, smell their foods, feel the fork in their
hand and the motion of their arm. If they turn and look at you, see yourself
(imagine: image-again) through their eyes without turning your head to
look back at them. You will have mastered this art when you have no conscious
awareness of yourself in your own body but only of yourself in the other
person.
For some people these abilities may develop in hours: for others these
little exercises may take weeks to master. The only limit is your desire
and your will power to persist in day to day improvements. Success will
come. Sheer desire and an open imagination will bring you to your own dream
flight path.
Whole body ventriloquism into animals is also a great dream consciousness
expansion exercise. You can catch a glimpse of life from a different view
point and body position. Living and non-living things of all varieties
can become focus points for practice, but to increase your dream flight
abilities the best targets are birds and airplanes.
An easy exercise to do anytime you are in the yard is to follow the birds
as they wing across the sky. Pick out one bird and desire to become that
bird. See through its eyes, feel the beating of your wings and feel the
air rushing by you as you sniff for bugs. As you progress, you will notice
an increase in dream awareness and awakeness levels. This is normal and
by now you may be realizing while dreaming that the world of dreams is
yours to enjoy or manipulate as you wish. To fully wake up in your dreams,
you need only realize you are dreaming. When you fully realize and know
that you are dreaming, tell yourself to wake up and enjoy the world around
you. Just as you did in these little exercises, see through the eyes of
your dream body, hear through your new ears, smell, taste and touch the
elements of another world.
If there is something in your dream that bothers you, you can change it
by willing the dream through desire to change. You can alter the dream
to your heart's content with this realization. Or you can let your dreams
free flow, not bothering so much with controlling the circumstances surrounding
your dreams but concentrating on exploring and experiencing the new world
into which you have just been born. You can simply relax as I did on the
boat and while falling down the silo. Knowing that you are awake but only
dreaming allows a natural flow of events and surroundings to inspire you
into new depths of awareness and new worlds for exploration.
Here are two additional little mental exercises you can do to help expand
your dream consciousness and dream realization. The first one is simply
to ask yourself during the day and at night as you are drifting off to
sleep. Am I dreaming? If I am not, how do I know for sure? The second one
is to stop what you are doing and observe your surroundings. Take a mental
and physical brake from your routine and realize who you are, where you
are and whether you are awake or sleep. The first exercise is quick and
almost subconscious. The second one is slow and deliberately conscious.
These exercises will help to unite your conscious and unconscious mind
together with one purpose - to realize when you are dreaming.
Chapter 4. I Can't Believe I'm Asleep!
OK! Time for a little review.
First, keep a dream notebook.
Second, record your dream desires.
Third, claim and record your rights of dream passage.
Fourth, expand your dream consciousness through whole body ventriloquism.
And now, the fifth tool to dream flight. Expect positive results!
Go to bed anticipating and be attentive as you drift off to sleep observing
what you see (your first dream images) and realize you are in the beginning
stages of dreaming, yet still slightly awake and aware that you are in
your bed. Now use the tool of whole body ventriloquism to shift your conscious
awake/awareness to the dream scene before you. Like a good movie, let your
curiosity and desires keep you awake while you review the changing scenes
before you. Resist society's programming that this is a time to black out.
Claim your rights of passage into this world through the mouth of your
dream body. Speak and express your desires to stay awake so you can begin
the exploration of a universe where the rules of gravity do not apply.
Start reminding yourself as you lay down in bed, not of what you must do
tomorrow morning but of what you expect to accomplish when you enter your
dream state tonight. Tell yourself that you won't forget to wake up in
your dreams because tonight you expect to fly. Remind yourself that this
action tonight is more important than anything else you have planned for
the next day. Becoming aware of your dream world depends on assigning its
importance. Exploring this new world will yield exciting results. Expect
the best from your new dream hobby. It will never disappoint you.
"Before I wake up tomorrow morning in bed, I will wake up first in my dream, and I will know that I am dreaming".
Write this down in your dream notebook and repeat it out loud before you fall asleep. Expect to wake up in your dreams. See yourself doing it in your imagination. Embrace the excitement of entering a world of total freedom where you have ability to fly.
All the events, experiences, thoughts, emotions, sensory experiences and
day dreams (imaginations) are recorded and stored in your brain throughout
your life time. Every smell, every taste, every touch, every sight, all
of this and much much more can be easily duplicated and improved upon by
your brain in the awakened dream state with the right stimulus. That stimulus
is desire, expectation, confidence, and dream consciousness expansion.
The possibilities of dream world experience are limitless.
You may be beginning to understand by now how important those lost hours of sleep can be. For most people, one third or more of their lives are lost in darkness. Sleep offers us the ultimate opportunity and time to play again, to love as we wish, to do what we can not physically do in our earthly bodies - climb mountains in minutes, talk with animals, fly through the universe, create new worlds to explore - awake and fully conscious. This is the ultimate form of stress management and a platform from which we can spring into a richer, fuller life. The only restrictions in this world of dreams are those which you carry into it.
Your only limitations are those that you submit to.
Chapter 5. Up Up and Away!!
My search for dream technique began when I was twelve, 1962. My passion
for flight began much earlier. I was fascinated with space, the stars,
and above all, the planes and rockets that could fly. My favorite myth
was Icarus, the man who flew too close to the sun. Mercury was my favorite
Greek god. Superman, Flash Gordon and Commander Cody were viewed whenever
possible, and if I played army on the play ground at school, I was always
a jet fighter soaring over the dirt mounds that made up our imaginary world.
Brain Boy was my favorite comic book hero because he was not from another
world but he had an advanced brain that allowed him to fly. Flight for
me at twelve had become a burning passion. I wished at night for the ability
of free flight and I wanted to fly worse than Christmas or birthdays, or
just about anything a kid might want.
One night, after several nights of lying in bed wishing and imagining what
it would be like to fly, I fell asleep and dreamed I was in front of my
house. Two small trees stood on the property about thirty feet apart. I
came out of my front door walking to the closest tree, then I turned toward
the other tree. As I walked, I wished (desired) that I could fly to the
tree. Immediately, I took off and experienced an exhilarating sensation
of flight. I woke up the next morning half in shock, half in overwhelming
joy. Here was a world, undiscovered, into which I had just been initiated.
My only reaction at that moment was a determination to get back into that
world and regain those sensations. My efforts and study to develop a simple
dream travel control would last seven years, but only because in 1962 the
pieces to this puzzle were buried in some rather obscure literature. Fortunately
for me, I lived close enough to a large public library and I was able to
find some books on the subject. (See Appendix II) Your search is over if
what you want is full dream control and the experience of flying fully
conscious awake in your dreams.
The simple dream tools I have given you, your faithful use of them with
a burning desire is all you need to step out of the front door of your
uncontrollable dreams and onto the front lawn of other worlds and other
realities waiting for you. "Just inside your grasp."
There are two additional dream tools that have proven most helpful to me
in the past as methods of waking up in my dreams. First is the focus point.
The exercise is simple and can be found in almost every book on dream control
and dream flight technique that I have studied. As you lie down in your
bed at night just before you drift off to sleep, place your hands in front
of your face so you can carefully observe them. Study the size and shape,
the lines and bone structure. Concentrate on the fact that they are your
hands and realize that you are awake staring at your own hands. In your
dream book, write down your desire to see your hands in your dream, and
remind yourself before you drift off to sleep:
"Remember to look for your hands tonight in your dreams, and when you see them realize you are dreaming and wake up in your dream."
When you dream that night, you will see your own hands. When you see them, realize that you are dreaming and realize that you can be aware (awake) in your dream. The moment you see your dream body hands, you can look up and out into another world, the real world of your dreams. Then, do as I have done so many times, will yourself and desire to lift off and fly.
The take off part is most easy for me when I simply relax, let go, fall
forward and soar upward letting my mind's desire, instead of any physical
effort, provide the power of propulsion. My dream experience upon awaking
in the physical world has always left me with a feeling of total freedom
which last for days regardless of the events good or bad that happen in
between my dream flights. I wish you this same freedom. That is why I wrote
this dream flight instruction manual.
The second tool is a simple one as well. Before you retire for the evening,
simply view your favorite selection of videos of people or birds or airplanes
flying. I highly recommend the movie " The Boy Who Could Fly."
If you have the time and materials, make a composite video of all your
favorite flight sequences. National Geographic Specials often contain spectacular
flying views taking from a plane. Edited together, these movie clips can
provide a powerful stimulus for flying in your dreams.
Chapter 6. Advanced Dream Techniques
Never allow anyone to teach you or advise you as to what you can or can
not do in this new dream world you have discovered. Many of the teachers
that I studied under would insist that the dream world was thus and so.
Invariably after reading their experiences and teachings, my experience
would also be the same. What you believe, you will experience in this new
world! So don't limit your beliefs to anyone else's ideas about "How
it is out there." Be your own dream guide and your own explorer, map
the territory that no one has imagined and ignore people who say "It
is this but not this.", "You can do this but not that".
This new dream world is whatever you want it to be and then some. Soon,
that knowledge and awareness will flood over into your material experience
as well. You may be stuck in what seems to be the worst possible situation
in your material life. As you begin to exert your will and explore your
own conscious self, you will notice day to day improvements in your physical
life as well. You will find the heart of freedom is inside of you - not
outside of you as many have been led to believe. So sit back, relax and
begin the experience of a lifetime - every night if you wish.
Now, here is some advanced stuff. You don't need to fall asleep to have
this dream flying experience. Once you have grown accustomed to being conscious
in another body, you will realize that your dream body is as much a part
of you as your physical body. You will be able to "at will" transfer
consciousness to your dream body for some super dream flight experiences
without even falling asleep. To anyone observing you, you will appear asleep,
even snoring (if that is your habit). You will have never fallen asleep
or lost your consciousness train of thought. Since my initial study in
this field was astral projection and not lucid dreaming, I never believed
it was necessary to fall asleep to have a conscious OBE (Out of Body Experience).
However, I did take notice of the fact that people who observe me while
in my state of altered dream consciousness simply believed I was asleep.
That is how I appeared to them. I have entered the state of lucid consciousness
awareness through both a dream method and an awake method - in my mind
the experience is the same. Perhaps, it is like two sides to the same coin
(I have no doubt that the scientists who are now deeply engaged in the
study of these phenomena would probably disagree with me).
It was 1971, and I was in Air Force tech school at the time. I was studying
electronics and teaching dream flight technique to my classmates. They
were a little leery about trying it, so I thought I might demonstrate the
fact that you don't enter into some kind of coma, trance or scary physical
state where your breathing and heart seem to stop. I casually lay down
on a bed, propped myself up on some pillows and proceeded to will (desire)
my consciousness into my flight vehicle (my dream body). I had only intended
a short flight for demo purposes but the scenery was beautiful and a new
found speed was exhilarating. I was circling the globe at an incredible
speed, and the colors and scenery began to blur as I soared faster and
higher. Shortly, I was flying through the darkness of space. The moon appeared
over head and to my right. As I shot past it, my speed seemed to double.
I was streaking through our solar system, moving from planet to planet
in less than a minute, and then into utter darkness as I left our solar
system behind. Stars were everywhere in the distance and I was moving even
faster now. As I looked back toward our solar system, it was just a dot
on the edge of a large cluster of stars surrounded by an even larger mass
of stars that made up the milky way. I turned forward again still increasing
my speed, the faster I went the better it felt, but I slowed down just
a bit now and then to get a better view of the galaxies I was passing.
The trip seemed to last ten or maybe fifteen minutes. Suddenly, all the
star systems that had been surrounding me in the vastness of space began
to disappear. As I looked back, I could see they were not gone at all -
I had simply gone past them. Behind me, I saw only billions of stars, in
front of me vast darkness. I was at the edge of the universe! But, what
was beyond? All I could see was darkness. I pressed on increasing my speed
occasionally glancing back and noticing that the billions of stars behind
me were beginning to appear as massive groupings. Galaxies within super
galaxies! I sped on pressing through the darkness ahead occasionally encountering
some sort of turbulence. Still nothing lay ahead, but vast empty darkness.
Behind me, the masses of super galaxies seemed to shrink and I could make
out the outline of the space that surrounded all the stars in the universe.
It was like a giant black beach ball that you could see inside of. A giant
see-through black beach ball filled with shimmering glitter.
Ahead of me, there suddenly appeared a pin point of light. I strained to
see what it was but I couldn't tell. I only knew I was moving at tremendous
speed, peeling back the fabric of space as I traveled. The light increased,
and I followed its trail. It grew brighter and expansive. I felt I was
moving through something more immense than the universe itself. It was
all light, but in its immensity I could sense form. I desperately wanted
to know what this tremendous, big as the universe itself, shaft was through
which I was flying. The excitement of knowing accelerated me still further.
In seconds I knew I was approaching the end of this gargantuan shaft. Ahead
of me, there was only light. I moved further into this new space feeling
its warmth and brilliance. Turning around, I tried to grasp the image that
was slowly beginning to take shape as I continued into the light. The further
I flew the more I could see. Then, there it was, an EYE as big as the universe
I had left behind on the other side. I flew backward into the light staring
at this massive opening I had just emerged from. I watched as the outline
of a face began to appear. The head was so big it could have contained
many universes. I could now see the full figure of a head attached to neck
and shoulders. As I flew even further, I saw a large plump body and a solemn
grin on a face I instantly recognized. It was Buddha! An unbelievably massive
Buddha! The further I moved away the smaller and seemingly more transparent
the statue became. As I peered through his frame, I could see the vastness
of dark space through which I had traveled. Toward the middle of his belly
I could see the universe. It was about the same size as his massive eye.
It was glowing and spinning and making some sound like a long low engine.
I had slowed to a stop by now, and I thought about what I was seeing and
what it might mean. Then I turned toward the space of light and wrote out
some desires and requests on a board of light that appeared before me.
What I wrote isn't important now because the board is always empty waiting for someone to write upon it. Go there tonight, write upon the board of creation what your desires are, and what you want to see happen for the earth. I believe that you will desire only the finest for yourself and for everyone else. Believe that what you desire will happen and it will.
As I wrote, I heard someone calling my name. I recognized my classmates'
voices and I simply thought of the path I had taken to get where I was.
Then, suddenly, I was back, like the snap of a stretched rubber band. I
opened my eyes and my ears to laughter. Two of the four people I was demonstrating
this technique for were standing next to my bed chuckling and poking fan.
"Man, what kind of trance was that?" "Yeah, man, you were
sound asleep and snoring like crazy, we wish we had a tape recorder!"
"Is that right?" I said," The fact is I was never asleep,
I never lost consciousness."
They replied, "You will never convince us of that. You've been out
cold for over one hour. We tried to wake you up two or three times with
no success until now." All I could think of was what a great flight
I just had and what a strange and wonderful dream flight experience. Up
Up and Away!!
Chapter 7. Notes From a Dream?
"I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago - whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know. God knows - such a man was caught up to the third heaven. And I know how such a man - whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows - was caught up into Paradise, and heard inexpressible words, which a man is not permitted to speak." (2 Corinthians 12:2-4) The revelation of John.
My revelation: I stood breathless bathed in the presence of a Being of light. I was not aware of being in any particular place, of the space around us, or of other beings. As I stood in its light, questions and answers seemed to flood through my mind increasing in speed and breath until they had covered every facet of existence. My mind turned to the nature of life on earth. The Being's knowledge began pouring into me. I felt a distant happiness on its part, a pleasure to share this knowledge with me.
I perceived a natural order of elemental energies complimenting and contrasting each other into which we have been thrust. Each element, each particle was alive with intelligence and emotion, acting independently yet cohesively with the other elements and forces surrounding it. To me, it appeared as if some galactic symphony was about to be conducted. All these living instruments and notes were staged and ready, only the musicians were invisible in my mind's eye.
I questioned the Being about the vision I had seen and why there were no musicians. Its reply was saddening. "The people of earth do not believe the music and the orchestra exists".
I knew from what I had seen so far that this Being had the answer to man's dilemma. Could I somehow coax it into divulging this information, or would it be inviting competition or even doom for its own species? I had realized in our exchange that recognizing and learning how to use the positive and negative forces of this natural order of elemental energies would create access to a power beyond comprehension. I understood instinctively that earthlings had been experiencing the cause and effect relationships of this power for centuries and that it was a misuse or misunderstanding of this power which seemed to be about to end our life on earth.
The Being smiled as I pondered for the answer. Then, enveloped once again in light, my mind began to fill. I saw the elements and energies as willing servants alive and inhabiting our auras according to our thoughts and spoken words. Impossible, I thought, such power could never be wield in such a trivial manner. No sooner had that thought emerged than the light enveloping me seemed to blink out of existence. I found myself basking in the rays of darkness and confusion. I had just drown in my own unspoken disbelief.
Faintly I saw the Being smiling. Then it was true, it must be true, our
simplest thoughts (beliefs), the words we speak could create or destroy
anything, everything. Collectively, the human race is on the edge of extinction,
but individually the forces and elements would immediately respond to a
change in my thought, word and deed. There was hope. I now believed one
person could make a difference, could make a nightmare change into a dream.
I learned earth's greatest error "Judgment".
Everything we oppose works to weaken us. Truth oppressed, whether good
or bad, weakens us. Fighting against anything wounds us. How are we to
change? Isn't opposition our nature? Is it possible with just a change
in thought and voice to turn the polarity of history? To be for love instead
of against hatred, to be for understanding instead of against prejudice,
to be for an enlightened and creative race instead of against the fear
and hatred of an oppressive governments spawning ignorance and addiction.
The Being spoke out loud for the second time,
"Positive and negative energies -work in opposition to each other. When you internalize these energies, they become your servants. If you become mostly positive or mostly negative you will draw others (those unsure or uncommitted) toward you. It is a great responsibility and the choice is yours. Simply by thinking positive thoughts and speaking positive words you attract positive energies. Your thoughts and words set up a kind of vibration or field which draws the energy, channels it and directs it toward an end.
Desire and emotion work much the same way. There is power in your thoughts.
You create your own surroundings by the thoughts you think, and most of
all you must understand that you and you alone create every thought. It
is true that someone by his/her powerful positive or negative aura may
attempt to influence you, but surrender to his/her influence is yours and
yours alone to accept or reject. No thoughts occur randomly or otherwise.
All of thought, just as all of imagination, is of your own willful creation.
It is your greatest power and most awesome responsibility. With these two
elements, you hold the key to life, death, happiness, sadness, health and
sickness. Indeed, all these energies for good or for evil are at your command".
I understood that in our thoughts and words we create our own weaknesses and our own strengths. Because our thoughts can affect this eternal energy they are the source of creation. All creation begins in the mind. It must be thought first. The Being spoke again.
"The history of the earth is as such because gifted people (that is those who think and believe they are able to) use their imaginations to create change, both wonderful and terrible. Some people have developed these powers of imagination for harm, using negative energy to create harmful things, items, or words that can destroy. Others have used their imagination in positive ways to the betterment of those around them. There is a literal power in the creations of the mind. Thoughts are deeds. Put simply, you and the world around you become what you collectively think."
I understood from the Being that life is lived most fully in the imagination,
that, ironically, imagination is the key to reality. If you believe, you
can have the ability to create your own life, to exercise your powers of
thought and imagination, to experience life as its creator. You should
use your free will to expand and improve life on earth. With this unearthly
revelation came the realization that something must govern all this power,
but what? What law, what power could be fair to all? What righteousness
could contain no judgment? Who or what, after this secret is revealed,
could keep you from plunging into the abyss with your new found abilities?
Through all of recorded history, there were only two ideas powerful enough
to contain such a force, and you have the free will to choose between the
two.
The Being's gaze broadened, its light illuminating my mind as if to encompass
all of earth's history. "Which idea would you choose to direct such
energies?" There really was only one answer. I had seen in my mind
one idea used throughout history by governments, churches, schools and
groups of people around the world always ending with the same results-
Fear. Fear was the dominant idea used by men to control these forces and
to control their fellow man. The end results of fear was the same. Masses
of people directed by fear moving against other people or other ideas usually
ending in death or destruction.
The second idea was often taught, seldom exercised and almost never believed - unconditional love. I knew it existed because I felt it emanating from the Being of light standing before me. In this Being's presence, I felt a great inner peace, no judgment, no insecurity and no fear. Its kindness and warmth seemed to penetrate my inner core. I sensed somehow that this Being's race had learned this wisdom abandoning fear many eons ago.
Now it is time for you to do the same. Now it is time for you to begin
your journey. You will fly tonight in your dreams because you can, and
if in your dream flight you encounter this Being of light and love, tell
it I said "Hello" and "Thank you".
The Beginning.
APPENDIX I
Special Help for Nightmares
The American Indians have a special technique for dealing with nightmares,
that works very well. They believe that to conquer a nightmare you must
face it. They also believe that contained within each horror there is a
gift of personal power that can be wrestled from its dream owner regardless
of the image or idea of horror projected in the dream. The keys to this
technique are the same as those taught in this little book. As you develop
your dream memory and your dream awareness levels rise, you will begin
to face your nightmares with a new found boldness and strength. You will
be having a nightmare (perhaps one you have had many times before), but
suddenly you will realize you are only dreaming and nothing here can hurt
you. A new strength will flood your being with a sense of control. Now
you can make a stand against your adversary knowing you can not be defeated
or frightened again. If it is some being or creature, grab a hold of it
and don't let go. If it is a nightmarish scene or idea, demand the owner
of this thought to appear before you. When the being or thing appears,
grab hold of it and demand from this nightmare a gift of personal power,
wisdom, or knowledge and refuse to let go until it has surrendered its
gift to you. After you have had this experience I can tell you from personal
experience your next day will not be the same. You will be charged with
power and inner peace and any nightmare you have in the future will hold
the promise of a new challenge and a new gift of personal power. Hidden
inside every dream, good or bad, is a deposit of personal power, wisdom,
and knowledge. These gifts are waiting for you just inside your grasp.
This little manual for waking up and flying in your dreams has started
you on your path to gain that freedom which is a part of your birth right.

Additional Reading
As I mentioned in my manual for waking up and flying in your dreams, I
first began my search for dream flight in 1962. By 1969, I was teaching
the techniques I had learned. The books I studied from were far from the
more advanced and scientific works available today. However, I will mention
one author and two of his books that were particularly influential on my
early studies. These two books: "The Art and Practice of Astral Projection"
and "The Art and Practice of Creative Visualization" by OPHIEL.
These books are long out of print but may still available through the publisher,
Samuel Weiser, NY. E-mail weiserop@worldnet.att.net Just a warning though,
these books are written with an occult bias. I do not believe that anything
about lucid flight or astral projection is occult, spooky, dangerous, sacrilegious
or unscientific. Lucid flight is part of a lost heritage in our modem civilization.
Regaining this ability is both a right and a privilege. I included these
two works in my appendix as a matter of history. The rest of my recommended
book list contains a more modem approach to this field of study.
I am sure you will find the following books and resources to be extremely helpful in your quest for lucid flight and full conscious dream control.
1. "The Lucid Dreamer" by Malcolm Godwin
Simon & Schuster, NY, NY
Beautifully illustrated and masterfully written
thoroughly covering the subject of lucid dreams.
2. "Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge, Ph.D.

considered an occult subject. Very good
My personal favorites for expanding your horizons
9. "The Forgotten Secret to Phenomenal Success"

I hope this book is still in print. It is a great book on reaching
your maximum potential
12 ."The Dancing Wu Li Masters" by Gary Zukav
13."The Tao of Physics" by Fritjof Capra
Bantam, New Age Books.
Now we are talking paradigm shifts. If these two books
don't affect your consciousness expansion, you might
want to have your pulse checked.
My personal favorites for those of you coming from a more religious point of view.
14."Prayers of the Cosmos" : Meditations on the Aramaic
Words of Jesus by Neil Douglas-Klotz
Harper, San Francisco.
Ever wondered what Jesus said in his own language? This book is as close as you can get to the actual teachings of Christ without becoming an ancient language scholar. You will be amazed and enlightened.
15."A Course in Miracles": Foundation for Inner Peace.
by Helen Schucman and William Thetford
Viking Press, Penguin Books, New York.
The content is a bit heavy however the exercises are simply powerful.
16. "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle
Namaste Publishing, Dutton (Penguin Group NY, NY.)
Awakening your life's purpose.
17. "A Walk in the Woods" by Rainbow Eagle -- Seventh Fire Peace
Shield Teacher
Can't say enough about this book and this teacher. Without question the most balanced, practical, hope filled, spiritual teaching it has ever been my pleasure to encounter. This is best as a slow meditative read and re-read. Thank you Rainbow Eagle for traveling a path capable of positively affecting so many people in such a gentle uplifting manner.
